Playgroup is your child's first experience of a room that isn't home, with grown-ups who aren't family. Everything we do in this year is built around making that feel safe rather than frightening.
We are not trying to teach a one-and-a-half-year-old to read. We are helping them feel secure somewhere new, curious about what's around them, and comfortable near other children. Those three things are the foundation every later year is built on.

Settling in at their pace
Some children wave goodbye on day one. Some take three weeks. We plan for both and never rush a child through it — a shortened first week is completely normal here.
Sensory and messy play
Water, dough, sand, paint and textures. At this age the hands are how the brain learns, so most of the morning is deliberately hands-on.
Rhymes, music and movement
Action songs and rhythm games build early language and listening long before a child has the words to join in.
Playing near, then playing with
Toddlers play alongside each other before they play together. We guide that shift gently — sharing, waiting and taking turns are taught, not assumed.
What a Playgroup day looks like
A 2.5-hour morning: a welcome circle with songs, a long stretch of free play across sensory and building corners, a supervised snack, some outdoor or covered play-area time, and a story before pick-up.
We run Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. See the rooms this happens in.
By the end of the year
Children develop at their own pace and we never treat this as a checklist. It's what we're working towards together.

- Manages a snack, a water bottle and hand-washing with light help
